Brightness is quoted in lumens, but runtime and battery type matter as much on a long shift. Rechargeable torches using 18650 or 21700 cells cost less to run than disposables, and headlamps keep both hands free.

For lighting an area rather than a spot, a rechargeable or mains work light covers a whole bay or engine bay. In hazardous areas, use only intrinsically safe lights rated for that zone.
